I found her! She was in the back of the car! She must have slipped back there - I looked, but I didn't find her before. She is not dead in the street!

Also - new bank card arrived last night, so I have money again - maybe it wasn't too horribly abused and I am not too screwed. Now I look forward to all the other bad stuff rolling back: leak in roof disappearing; holes in walls magically fixing themselves!

In such a world, anything is possible!
